Barefoot in Buttercream

There is a garden in every childhood, an enchanted place where colors are brighter, the air softer, and the morning more fragrant than ever again. ~Elizabeth Lawrence

I love this quote.  Though it is about a garden, I think it applies to finding beauty in the ordinary.

When winter has passed, you will find me more often than not barefoot.  I love the way the earth feels under my feet.

Spring, summer, autumn, and winter, you will find me either wearing a skirt & top or a dress.  I find them more comfortable than any sort of trousers.  I tend to wear my favorite skirts until they are threadbare.  I get so excited when I find a style and color that I like.  This last weekend, I found a sale online and I am thrilled with my purchases.  The skirt in the photograph above is a gorgeous buttercream color.  This long skirt is a soft flow-y linen.  It was originally priced at $49 and was on sale for $14.70.  I bought the same skirt (same sale price) in an earthy army olive color and also in a sand color.

Do you have a favorite outfit that you enjoy wearing during these warm early summer days?

  1. This is a wonderful quote, and is also the way I remember things, from so very long ago.

  2. I am most comfortable in a tshirt and capris. I rarely wear a skirt or dress these days. I love that soft buttery color though! What a great sale!! You basically got three for the price of one. That's my kind of shopping!

  4. A beautiful quote and so true! I do love to wear dresses and I have quite a few, but lately I have not worn them because I've been babysitting the grands. It's mostly tunics and rolled up jeans for me right now! You got a great deal and love the colors you chose. xx Karen

    1. Karen, I do love wearing tunics. In the autumn or winter, I may wear one with leggings. That is almost a dress! ♥

  6. I feel the same way, love going barefoot, I have had some troubles in the past with my feet that I needed to wear certain shoes, but hoping I can get away with it this summer

But oh! the blessing it is to have a friend to whom one can speak fearlessly on any subject; with whom one's deepest as well as one's most foolish thoughts come out simply and safely. Oh, the comfort — the inexpressible comfort of feeling safe with a person — having neither to weigh thoughts nor measure words, but pouring them all right out, just as they are, chaff and grain together; certain that a faithful hand will take and sift them, keep what is worth keeping, and then with the breath of kindness blow the rest away. ~Dinah Maria Craik, A Life for a Life, "Chapter XVI: Her Story," 1859
